This organization was created in memory of Houston Caldwell, who passed from us on April 30, 2010. He was only 18 years old, but his musical legacy, passion for the continued growth of our musical heritage, and his spirit of community service will live on as we continue to fulfill his vision.
HoustonFest Mission
* To honor Houston’s spirit and legacy by transforming lives through the power of music and community service
* To provide inspiration and avenues for regional youth to pursue their artistic endeavors preserving the musical heritage of this region
* To provide support to the Galax Volunteer Fire Department
* Work to sustain Houston’s incredible legacy in an enduring way by providing support to young people
HoustonFest Objectives
Be an organized festival and celebration that will serve as a fundraiser for The Galax Volunteer Fire Department
Showcase and preserve the rich musical heritage of the greater Blue Ridge area by presenting intergenerational music from the region to include bluegrass, old-time, country and gospel through performances, showcases and displays in an annual celebration.
Invite non-profits and local artisans to participate in HoustonFest as a venue to both sell their products and demonstrate the arts and crafts of the region.
Proceeds from HoustonFest to provide funds to Galax Volunteer Fire Department with discretionary contribution to be made to local youth music education programs.
