What is HoustonFest about?
HoustonFest celebrates the life of young banjo picker, Houston Caldwell (more info here) with two days of stellar bluegrass, oldtime and country music artists.
When and where is the festival be held?
The first weekend in May annually at Felts Park • 601 South Main Street • Galax, Virginia 24333
Friday Gates open at 12noon, Saturday Gates open at 9am.
How do I get there?
- Take Exit 14, Highway 58, heading toward Galax VA
- Follow Highway 58 to Main Street
- Turn left onto Main Street Galax
- Felts Park is approximately 1 mile on the left
Where can I stay during the festival? We have Limited Camping on site at Felts Park! Tents $15 per day, Campers $25 per day. For Lodging, Campground, dining info:

Where can I park?
Galax Volunteer Fire Dept. will direct Parking in Felts Park. Ample parking is available throughout City of Galax within walking distance of the park.
What do I need to bring?
There is limited stadium seating at the venue. Bring your own lawn chair as there will be ample space in front of the stage. There will be multiple food vendors providing refreshments. This is a non-alcoholic event.

Will there be any crafts or band merchandise on sale at the event?
Numerous local artisans will be on hand to sell their wares. The participating bands will be available to sell their merchandise, as well.
If I misplace something, or need information while attending the festival where should I go?
Festival and Community Info will be available at the City of Galax Tourism & Visitor Center Gazebo on site at HoustonFest. Lost & Found Items will be available for a limited time by contacting us at
